You know those frogs, salamanders, newts, snakes, and everything else in your local creek? Ever want
Unicorn Creek
to catch one? Here's how.

  1. Don't be afraid to get wet. Or dirty, for that matter. These creatures love to hide under rocks and in mud.
  2. Gather your supplies. It really helps if you have a butterfly net. Salamanders are fast! Same with snakes, but you may need an amphibian guide so you can identify what amphibian you find.
  3. Hunt for the animal you want to find. Newts, salamanders, and frogs may be found on banks. Snakes can often be found right above a bank.
  4. Turn over rocks and under leaves. This is where they hide.
  5. When you see what you are looking for, act as if you don't see it. If it knows you are watching it, it will flee.
  6. Grab it! Make sure you approach slowly or you'll scare it away.
  7. Drop it in the bucket. Then either look up how to care for it and keep it, or observe and let it go.

TipsEdit

  • Do this on a warm, moist day preferably the day after it rains.
  • Make SURE it is not a poisonous snake, just a garter snake.
  • If you do keep it, make sure to find out what it eats.
  • All amphibians have mild toxins in their skin, don't handle them for too long.
